Bruce Mehlenbacher has helped organize, support, and promote community events, charitable initiatives, youth sports programs, and fundraising efforts throughout Haldimand County. 1989

Marty McSorley All-Star Day

Goal

To raise funds for the Haldimand Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, formerly the Haldimand Association for the Mentally Retarded, supporting the Filsinger Property Fund and the plan to develop a new facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Youth Hockey Skills Competition

Goal

To organize a community hockey skills competition while raising funds to support two-year-old cancer patient Jack Dell and his family during a difficult time.

Outcome

The Youth Hockey Skills Competition brought together young athletes, families, volunteers, and local supporters for a day of friendly competition and community spirit. Through participant registrations, sponsorships, and donations, more than $5,000 was raised to assist Jack Dell and his family with expenses associated with his cancer treatment and care. The event demonstrated the community's compassion and generosity, using hockey to make a meaningful difference in the lives of a local child and his family.

Youth Hockey Skills Competition

Goal

To support and promote three community-focused hockey events: the Spencer Mitchell Memorial Hockey Game, the Jason Baird Memorial Public Skate, and the Scotiabank NHL Alumni Hockey Game, while bringing residents together through the sport of hockey.

Outcome

The Youth Hockey Skills Competition complemented a series of successful community hockey events that celebrated local sports, honoured the memories of Spencer Mitchell and Jason Baird, and provided families with opportunities to participate in fun, inclusive activities. Working alongside the Cayuga Improvement Foundation, the initiative helped generate community engagement, support local recreational programs, and strengthen community spirit through hockey. The event demonstrated how sport can unite residents of all ages while supporting meaningful community causes and preserving the legacy of respected local individuals.

Hockey Day In Cayuga

Goal

To celebrate the game of hockey while bringing families, players, and the community together for a fun-filled day supporting local minor sports organizations.

Outcome

Hockey Day In Cayuga was a tremendous success, providing young people with an opportunity to enjoy the sport and participate in a memorable community event. Through the generosity of participants, sponsors, and volunteers, nearly $10,000 was raised and donated to Cayuga Minor Hockey, the Haldimand River Kings, and the Haldimand River Cats, helping support youth and community hockey programs throughout Haldimand County. This event demonstrated the power of community involvement and the positive impact local fundraising initiatives can have on amateur sports and youth development.
